1. Introduction Guru Purnima is one of the most sacred festivals of India. It is celebrated to express gratitude and respect towards teachers, mentors, and spiritual guides. The word Guru means the one who removes the darkness of ignorance, while Purnima means the full moon day. This festival is observed on the full moon day of the Hindu month of Ashadha (June–July).	1. परिचय गुरु पूर्णिमा भारत का एक अत्यंत पवित्र एवं महत्वपूर्ण पर्व है। यह दिन गुरु, शिक्षक तथा आध्यात्मिक मार्गदर्शकों के प्रति सम्मान और कृतज्ञता व्यक्त करने के लिए मनाया जाता है। गुरु वह है जो अज्ञान रूपी अंधकार को दूर कर ज्ञान का प्रकाश फैलाता है तथा पूर्णिमा पूर्ण चन्द्रमा के दिन को कहते हैं। यह पर्व आषाढ़ मास की पूर्णिमा को मनाया जाता है।
2. History and Origin Guru Purnima is dedicated to Maharishi Ved Vyasa, who compiled the four Vedas and wrote the Mahabharata. He is regarded as one of the greatest teachers in Indian history. Therefore, this day is also known as Vyasa Purnima.	2. इतिहास एवं उत्पत्ति गुरु पूर्णिमा महर्षि वेदव्यास को समर्पित है, जिन्होंने चारों वेदों का संकलन किया तथा महाभारत की रचना की। उन्हें भारतीय संस्कृति के महानतम गुरुओं में से एक माना जाता है। इसलिए इस दिन को व्यास पूर्णिमा भी कहा जाता है।
3. Importance of Guru A guru shapes the character and future of a student. Teachers not only provide education but also teach discipline, honesty, confidence, kindness, and moral values. They inspire us to become responsible citizens. Provides knowledge Builds character Guides towards success Develops confidence Teaches values	3. गुरु का महत्व गुरु विद्यार्थियों के व्यक्तित्व एवं भविष्य का निर्माण करते हैं। वे केवल शिक्षा ही नहीं देते, बल्कि अनुशासन, ईमानदारी, आत्मविश्वास, सदाचार एवं जीवन मूल्यों का भी विकास करते हैं। ज्ञान प्रदान करते हैं। चरित्र निर्माण करते हैं। सफलता का मार्ग दिखाते हैं। आत्मविश्वास बढ़ाते हैं। नैतिक मूल्यों की शिक्षा देते हैं।
4. Celebration Students and devotees offer flowers, gifts, and greetings to their teachers. Schools organize speeches, cultural programmes, and special assemblies. Temples and ashrams hold prayers, meditation, and spiritual discourses.	4. उत्सव कैसे मनाया जाता है विद्यार्थी अपने शिक्षकों को पुष्प, उपहार एवं शुभकामनाएँ अर्पित करते हैं। विद्यालयों में भाषण, सांस्कृतिक कार्यक्रम एवं विशेष प्रार्थना सभाओं का आयोजन किया जाता है। मंदिरों और आश्रमों में पूजा, ध्यान तथा प्रवचन आयोजित किए जाते हैं।
5. Guru Purnima in Different Religions Guru Purnima has significance in different religions: Hinduism: Honors Maharishi Ved Vyasa. Buddhism: Marks Buddha's first sermon at Sarnath. Jainism: Commemorates Gautam Swami becoming Lord Mahavira's first disciple.	5. विभिन्न धर्मों में महत्व गुरु पूर्णिमा विभिन्न धर्मों में विशेष महत्व रखती है— हिन्दू धर्म: महर्षि वेदव्यास का सम्मान। बौद्ध धर्म: भगवान बुद्ध के प्रथम उपदेश की स्मृति। जैन धर्म: गौतम स्वामी के प्रथम शिष्य बनने का दिवस।
6. Role of Teachers Today Modern teachers guide students beyond textbooks. They encourage creativity, digital learning, critical thinking, and lifelong learning. Their guidance helps students face future challenges confidently.	6. आधुनिक समाज में शिक्षकों की भूमिका आज के शिक्षक केवल पाठ्यपुस्तकों तक सीमित नहीं हैं। वे विद्यार्थियों में रचनात्मकता, डिजिटल शिक्षा, तार्किक सोच तथा जीवनभर सीखने की भावना विकसित करते हैं।

Guru Purnima reminds us that education is not only about academic success but also about building good character.	8. वर्तमान समय में प्रासंगिकता आज के बदलते समय में शिक्षक विद्यार्थियों को सही दिशा, विवेकपूर्ण ज्ञान एवं श्रेष्ठ चरित्र प्रदान करते हैं। गुरु पूर्णिमा हमें यह सिखाती है कि शिक्षा केवल परीक्षा में सफलता नहीं, बल्कि अच्छे इंसान बनने का माध्यम भी है।
9. Conclusion Guru Purnima is a festival of gratitude, wisdom, and respect. It reminds us to honor our teachers and follow their teachings throughout life.
